Online Gambling Limited for Canadians
Casino News - 26th Sep 2010
Certain online gambling sites have stopped offering some of their services to their Canadian clientele. As of September 24, 2010, Canadian customers will no longer be able to download the sites' software.
These changes that affect Canadian players have come from left field, so to speak. The email that went out detailing the changes, referred to "new regulations," however these new regulations remain somewhat ambiguous. It is unclear whether the new laws were made by legislators in Canada or elsewhere.
The gambling sites that have indicated changes to their policies with regards to Canadian players include big names such as Paddy Power, Bwin and Casino Club. The software for all of these groups is powered by the online gaming software provider, Boss Media. It appears that the flash based no download instant casinos that are offered by Bwin and Paddy Power are not being restricted for Canadian players.
Casino Club sent the following message to their clientele: "We regret to inform you that due to the new regulations of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, Loto-Quebec and the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, online gambling products in Canada are prohibited. Unfortunately, we are required to add Canada to our list of excluded countries. Players from Canada will no longer be permitted to play at Casino Club starting September 24th, 2010."
The correspondence from Bwin was slightly more cryptic, with the following email going out: "We regret to inform you that, due to the introduction of new regulations, operations of the download casino will cease as of September 23, 2010." It continued that "there is good news though. You can still enjoy your favorite games as normal in the Bwin instant play casino and to make the transition even sweeter, we'll be offering you a 100% welcome bonus. Get ready to switch now."
